AWD is better than 4x4 .. I’m jealousHey everyone!
New member here. I see most of you all are into the Toyotas.
I currently don't own anything very capable right now (94 Civic) but I'm more into the Sabura market. AWD and enough clearance to get me anywhere I want to go. Currently looking for a Crosstrek!
I'm mainly here for the fabrication thread. I've done some small welding jobs for some enthusiast and the off road community is a great place to expand my skills.
I'm excited to be apart of the Hardcore Off Road community!
Any pics of the stuff you build for the Subaru’s?Hey everyone!

Hi, all. Kris here. I normally lurk on TacomaWorld.com or Tundras.com but figure I should create an account to lurk here also. I have a 2014 Tundra that I've been hacking away at for years but much more severely recently.
This is the only recent photo I have on my phone..

The rig is supercharged, running 40s, and on 4.88 gears. Plans are to go to 42s, 5.29s, and long-travel in the front this year. There's a 3/1-link kit for the rear that I've been eyeing also but that's way down the list in priority.
I think I follow you on IG, or at least seen your rig getting torn down and tubing laid out for that flatbed. You planning to completely ditch the bedsides?Hi, all. Kris here. Stoked to see where you take your truck. Definitely a one of a kind build right there. LT and linked rear is going to be a lot of fun. You do your own fab work too?
Yup. No bedsides at all. I tossed them in the trash. Totally doing all the fab work myself as I go; I'm in San Diego and mess around in my garage. Just started last year but this is my biggest project. Learned the intricacies of overhead and vertical welds on tubing the hard way and messed up some joints, haha.I think I follow you on IG, or at least seen your rig getting torn down and tubing laid out for that flatbed. Yeah those are some hard welds to get good at. Welding on tubing is already a pain in the ass due to the multiple curves, but mix in vertical and overhead, and it takes the fun away from it. Especially if there are any gaps in the tubes. On my last project, I had a spot that had a small gap in a section that I had to do a vertical weld, and that was a real PITA haha.Yup. Made an account after lurking for a month or two. Ended up here after most of the good builds on T4R ended up only getting updated here.
Drive a 97 4Runner with 492,000 kms on it. Manual transmission, Icon 2.5 non-resi shocks front, fox 2.0 resi with compression adjusters, 315/75/16 Yoko MT's, tubbed front and real wheel wells. An old Outdoor Logic front bumper with homemade hoops, in the process of building a rear bumper (have a CBI but after cutting a lot of body out of the rear it doesn't protect anything anymore and just hangs low).
Best pic of my truck is it sitting with a broken spindle

That is awesome that the best pic is of you broken! I wish I took more pics of when I break my shit out on the trail but usually I focus on two things when that happens. Fixing it and beer.Made an account after lurking for a month or two. Ended up here after most of the good builds on T4R ended up only getting updated here.

That rear fender clearence looks good. Did you repaint the lip of the fender?Rarely ever take pictures of anything. That was a pic one of buddies took on the run haha. Ssme story with build threads, made one on T4R (same name, dont post often) but never updated it like I said I was going to.
Bumper is cut down to something usable as a recovery point for now. I will get back Had a swingout and some ugly side tube for the summer but didn't like how it looked/clearance so it all got scrapped. Did keep my spare tire on the back for summer (a lot of trips multiple hours from home and a good amount of solo trips).
In no order

Yep I know how you feel there. I hate painting too. Always thought it would be cool to learn the two stage stuff but have zero motivation to actually do it. I pretty much always just rattle can everything with cheap paint. It’s gotta be touched up eventually anywaysYeah i painted with nothing more duplicolor paint match from a rattle can. There's not much more I hate than painting and prep, but I did try my best and put more effort than I normally do. Spent a good amount of time with bondo, high fill primer, multiple coats of paint with wet sanding in between and duplicolor clear coat. First time with anything bodywork related, but I think all considered it turned out acceptable. Welding 20 year old sheet steel to 1,/4" round bar wasn't super fun. Especially with everything being out of position. Far from a decent welder, but slowly getting more consistent. The paint looked decent immediately after, but two years later and its chipping and the clear coat is peeling. I'm convinced anything out of a rattle can doesn't last more than 6 months, and I'm too cheap for powder coat (for bumpers and skids) and hate the fact I can't touch it up. Paint in general sucks. I'd like to try out some 2 stage stuff out of a gun, but know literally zero about it and really dont care to learn.

Also WRC season just started - I have to image you are at least familiar with it, if not a fan. I love that shit. Used to beat the piss out of my 2000 Ford Focus when I bought it new.
