It was a very large, very late snow year. In January I was stoked because of how little snow there was. By late February I was pissed at how much snow there was. When winter round two hit the middle of May I was ready to move to Florida. lol

120 won't be open till close to the 4th of July. It's always the last of the passes to open. It's going to stay warm for the next two weeks so that should melt off any snow left on the trail. I think. lol

Kind of a bummer because I wanted to at least drive through, but kinda glad because it was out of the way and I hate tourist traffic. Hahah.

Stuffing in some 660lb springs in preparation for the summer. Better take it on a "fire road shakedown run" to make sure I'm ready for Niagara Rim.

Also replaced rusty JBA ball joints on warranty while I was in there. Hopefully this new coating holds up better.

Sweet.

A little update on this run. @4runner DOA should pay attention here as well.

I checked the FS website again today. They have the trail listed as closed. I called to verify. The gate is locked and there's a few feet of snow currently on trail. I'm hoping that the snow will melt by then but we should come up with a plan B.

Haha plan b might be that I go skiing! Although I would also like to wheel

Mammoth? @4runner DOA will be in the area thursday night so I'm sure we could do something more local. I'm still hoping it opens though. It's going to be really warm middle of next week so that should help.

Keep me posted. I'll have Robbie and a fully loaded rig, so anything off grid I'm cool with. I don't wanna leave it sitting around anywhere too long in a parking lot where I'll risk shit getting jacked.

Mammoth is pretty far from me, and I prefer the BC anyway. Unfortunately I'm not local to you all, so I'm really hoping the trail opens up in the next few weeks. I wouldn't be able to join if plan b trail was 4+ hours away from the bay area.

Called the ranger station today and the trail is still closed. He said "probably a few more weeks"

I'd be surprised if there's that much snow left but if the gate is still locked it doesn't make much difference

If they're saying weeks, it's unlikely to be open this weekend. Probably gotta let it dry out as the snow melts so things aren't getting rutted out.

What's plan b @theesotericone I'm leaving tomorrow morning.

@James C Thanks for calling. It was on my list of shit to do. Looks like we'll need to wait a bit. We'll figure out a future date that works. If you change your mind and want to travel more then 4 hours from the Bay well be wheeling and camping around Bishop.

@4runner DOA Whatever you want man. I checked Coyote the other day and it's open. Buttermilk's loop is good to go. The whites are mostly snow free. Wyman's probably good. Papoose flats to Badger and out mozourka is probably good. Black canyon is good. I could keep going but that should be enough for you to chew on. Lol

Probably won't be running a transmission skid. I can't find my bolts and spacers for it. :headwall: so whatever's good for a couple days of camping, maybe some fishing. We'll figure it out when I get up there.

In the meantime we'll be eating some good food around the campfire. I've got some tritip strips and pork strips marinating and freezing. Should be perfect by Friday and Saturday.

Sounds better then my usual gourmet top ramen. If you want to fish we can make that happen. I still haven't even gotten my license this year. I'll pick one up. I got a plan. Ever been up in Coyote Flats?

This is my first trip into the Sierras. I'm assuming I can pick up a license in bishop? I'm terrible at fishing, but I have fun catching nothing. Would be cool if Robbie could catch something. I've really just needed to get out with someone that actually fishes on the regular.

You can get one pretty much anywhere. There's a spot in Bishop that we can stop on the way up though. It's also a grocery store for last minute supplies.
