When I bought my bumper, I got it I coated. I took it to a local powder coater to get done. I’ve noticed after this winter that some rust is starting to surface. It looks like it’s bleeding through the powder. I thought powder was supposed to be the shizzle. Is it not? Am I just going to put up with this living in the salt belt?

It happens eventually. Powder coat is not impenetrable.
Even if the coater did everything right, it will eventually fail.
I hear it fairs better in the desert.

I pretty much just painted my own shit because I figured it was gonna get trashed and I'd have to paint over it anyway.

I chose to paint my 4XI front bumper over powder coating for the same reason as @4runner DOA - easier to maintain and touch up in the long run I think

FWIW, my powder coated RCI skids are starting to bubble and peel in a few spots.

Rust always wins. Eventually, everything corrodes. And the more corners, bends, and crevices there are, the more places there are where you have flexing of the coating on a level that we can't see, but that will affect coating performance.

A flat, square chunk of C channel will last longer than a bumper with 16 pieces of metal that all warm up, expand, and then cool down and contract at different times of the day.

Way of the road boys.
