NWOR 2018. This was actually pretty fun. Lots of cool people and vehicles. Tons of vendors and deals to be had. Free drinks, raffles, cook outs, and beers back at camp. They offer lots of classes on everything from basic 4x4 obstacles, recovery techniques, HAM radio classes, you name it. Of course, you don't have to do any classes if you don't want, but they are there. I would say it's better to organize your own trail ride unless you want to be part of a twenty vehicle gaggle-fuck. Going again this year.

Naches wheeling and camping trip Pt. 2. This was definitely more of an offroad challenge. One of the guy had broke a front diff mount, CV, and rear ring. Oh.. And oil pan. The rest of the trip was a recovery.

Rear ARB locker and 4.88 gears installed by Nils Bull at Bull Built Diffs. Very cool guy who knows his diffs. Also a time to catch up on some maintenance. Gear break in with new gear oil cycled in. Built a plastic spacer to give my rear skid some stand off room around the transfer case. Swapped out some sway bar bushings. Mine were toast.

I was on a spending tear. I picked up some Cooper STT Pro 315/75/16s. Added TC cam tab gussets, replaced LCA bushings with Whiteline bushings, and grinded a bit off my Savage skids where they were making contact with the LCA at full droop. Still needed to clear for the 35s at this point. And very, very poor.

Damn, putting in some work with all those upgrades! Great pics too.

How did that person manage to break so much stuff (CV, Diff mount, rear diff, oil pan...)??

Those NOCO battery jumper packs are pretty sweet. My brother and dad have them and they work great. I need to pick myself up one of the jumper packs and maybe a battery tender too.

So now we are up to speed for the most part. Some pics are Quentin Tarantino like, as they are out of order, but the theme is the same. My buddy Paul gave me a hand this weekend cutting and welding to make things work.

With the SPC UCAs set to "G" the wheels are set as far forward as possible. We'll see how it is out on the trail. But fully aired up, they clear lock to lock and don't hit frame. We didn't remove both front bumpstops for compression check. But we went to compression and cut a bit more to account for bumps. Also, I added Plastics Guy Duro Bumpstops.

The snorkel will come in handy as soon as it gets dry and dusty. I suppose it couldn't hurt too much on our wet trails too.

I have been promoted to U-boat Commander...

Thanks man! It's been a long expensive journey.

So, as far as my friend's woes... We think that his dismount was broken before he attempted the hill. The hill is made of very loose shale that lent itself to a fair amount of tire spinning if you're not careful. So on the way up the hill we imagine his front diff was flexing due to one of the mount being broken. this in turn caused a CV to break in the front. And then this led to all the power of the 4 x 4 under load going up the hill being taken from all four wheels to just the rear two, shock loading the ring and pinion. I have the video somewhere and it does not sound pretty. we think that somehow in all this flax or maybe the CV flailing around the tight quarters oil pan got struck in the deflection and slightly bent, but tent enough to start seeping oil. It was a suck situation for sure. there's a lot of threading the needle through a lot of very tight quarters trees and off-camber fun just getting out there. So trying to tow a vehicle back became its own little nightmare, that was further complicated by the fact that he could not run his vehicle. There are a few long sustained the sense that had to have multiple brake vehicles attached to his vehicle so as not to overheat a single primary breaking vehicle.

Geeze! That sounds like a long, not very fun day. Glad you guys got him out, and hopefully he's back up and running right away. That's a lot to have to fix all at once after a long recovery like that.

Yeah... It was a bit of a bummer. His insurance covered it. He bought back the salvage title 4Runner, and payed off his loan left on the vehicle. He got lucky because it was an expensive road to go down. We did most of the work collectively, but man oh man... That was not a fun fix. For the oil pan, step one in the manual was to pull the engine. We didn't, and made it work, but it was a PITA. LOL.

Those tires look good man. Glad you got some help on the tub. It's a real PITA but it's worth it in the end. I did all the cutting and welded the fronts myself. I was so over it by then I drove 4 hours south to have @AssBurns finish welding the rears for me. lol

Thanks man! I'm really digging how everything finally turned out. As far as the tub and welding job went, I know when something is beyond my skill set. I would have set my shit on fire. Good for you for trying to get at it yourself. It turned out great! You rig is looking unstoppable with the new beefy tires and reenforced links.

Brake job. Pad swap turned into replacing frozen Napa caliper. Pain in the ass. Helped my friend clear his 285/75/17s. His Falkins are only a hair shorter than my 315/75/16s.
