youd be suprised as long as you support his back legs i havent met a dog i couldnt pick up yet unless they are a dog i dont trust at all anyway. one arm in between his front legs and the other scoop his back legs a bit under his but and lift. he is a very big boy though i wouldnt want to do it alot lol

It would have to be a fireman's carry to get him into a tent though. Can't climb a ladder holding a 120lb dog in front of me.

I can run up a ladder carrying 2 packs of shingles so that part wouldn't be too bad.

It takes me all of 10 minutes to put my tent away to go crawling. The part I like about it best is, as I’m sure you all know, the places around here to go crawling are shit for setting up a ground tent. I really like that I can pull it off the trail and pop the tent out with no ground prep.
Regular tents are so much better in so many ways. Unless you are trying to get likes for the gram or look good at the mall. Then RTT’s add like 50 overland points. What’s your OB badge number? I bet that skottle makes your boyfriends sausage taste so much better than a regular grittle.... :flipoff:
Unless you're being poor and carrying all your shit on your back; there is no reason to sleep on the ground.

Find a level place to park the truck, 5 minutes later the tent is up and I'm out of the weather. Rain fly goes up with the tent. Sleeping bags stay in the tent so nothing has to get drug out in the rain/mud other than myself.

Then when it rains 2" overnight there is no worry about waking up in the middle of a lake.
I can usually get my sleeping arrangement setup within about 5 minutes. My tent is pretty damn easy to setup. 3 poles, a rain fly and 6 stakes. The pad just unrolls and sleeping bag is out within seconds. It weighs 6 pounds and tucks nicely in my cargo area losing minimal space. No worry about a heavy ass RTT on the roof or hitting it on a tree or rock. And when I get home I just toss it on the shelf. No worry about having two people moving it or wasting valuable space in my garage. If you have any decent tent, and area to pitch it then no worries about waking up in 2” of water.
WTF. You guys are doing it wrong. Hammocks is were it’s at. 3 mins setup, your not on the ground. You can leave it at camp and go riding and not have to worry about hitting an expensive RTT on a tree/rock. And it weighs about 2 lbs.

I haven’t setup a tent in 5 years, some of those nights were well below freezing and I slept like a baby in my hammock

The only thing I worry about is looking like a meat burrito to a passing bear

I own a hammock and used it maybe twice. I just don't sleep well in it. I'm also too cold in it even with a sleeping pad. I don't like it enough to buy an underquilt. I prefer sleeping on a harder surface. My wife likes it. She slept in the hammock our entire Dusy Ershim trip, while I slept on the ground. Usually if the weather is dry, and I don't have kids with me I'll just sleep on the ground. It's as easy as it gets. Just toss a foam pad out, toss the sleeping bag on top, and use my jacket or shoes as a pillow when I go to bed.

I found out I don't like sleeping while hanging. I can nap, but not long sleep

I can sleep in a hammock, but at that point I could sleep standing. Honestly, If I continue to use an rtt, its gonna have to be big. I have a 60lb dog, 110lb wife and and then 225lb me. the 2p cvt i have isnt gonna cut it anymore. I really have to decide how often im going to use it at this point, before i spend that much coin on one again.

Just ditch the RTT and get a good ground tent. I would get a 3-4 person backpacking tent that has at least 1 vestibule, and is at least 3 season rated. I have a Kelty Trail Ridge 3 person tent that I've used for the past 7 or so years. Me and a buddy bought it when we used to go backpacking a lot with our dogs (75lb Husky and 65lb shepherd mix). We slept pretty comfortable with all 4 of us in there. Now I use it for family camping; Me (200lbs), Wife, (100lbs), a 4 year old, and a almost 2 year old. We sleep pretty comfortable. Not a lot of extra room but the smaller size helps keep it warmer and packs smaller. I see very little reason to need a RTT when I have a decent lightweight tent that is easy to setup/takedown, takes up very little space, is multi-purpose for all kinds of camping, and costs less than $200. Even if you spend twice that on a ground tent, you'll still be cheaper and better off than a RTT IMO.

honestly, I did the lightweight backpacking / camping thing for years, professionally (not really light weight lol) and personally. Ive immediatley witnessed the desire for my wife to get out and camp with the rtt. If i dont have an rtt, it would probably be an OZ tent, because if Im camping on the ground, I better be able to stand up and change in it. The best part about the rtt, is that my wife doesn't complain. She feels comfortable, and likes it. So ill probably be getting another one just for my own sanity to be honest.

doggy style but sideways.

i honestly have been considering this as well. I have one that have bug mesh and all but had been considering like a really nice one. Most of the time camping its just me and i have a big ground tent if my kid wants to go.
I don't have a bug net. honestly the bugs have never bothered me and I'm in Mississippi. My wife and kids also have hammocks when they go

this is why i was looking at some different hammocks they lay flat almost like a cot. its kinda one may tent that hangs off the ground
like this?

Hammocks are great for chilling but fuck if I could sleep in one.

I had problem sleeping the first time i tried a hammock but I learned how to sleep flat in it and haven't had problems since. You need a double sized hammock, I have the ENO they or ok but their expensive now.
I like to make my straps as tight as possible. I sleep on my side and have slept on my stomach a couple times without any problems so I sleep pretty flat

Yea as long as you sleep at an angle you can get pretty flat. Nah the one I was looking at has 2 poles built into it to hold the rain fly off your face. It was pretty neat. My kids are too young to be in a hammock for the night though Nora would never sleep and the other one isn’t even born yet
Nah. I can’t sleep on an angle. I just make it tight as possible. My little girl has been sleeping in one since she was 3 she is 9 now so she is ok with it. My wife don’t mind it as much as she minds putting up a tent.

I will have to put up the tent when my 2 month old son starts going
