Anyone here with bypasses? How far off the shock body do the tubes stick out? For a 2.5" diameter shock. Fox or King.

We talked about that a bit at my house a few weeks ago. @Hank said my valving is in the resi instead of the shock body like his is. So it's probably different. I may actually need stiffer coils in the rear. I had heard the metal tech heavy coils don't handle weight as well as say the icon overland coils (no I won't get the fucking overland coils) because it's a lower coil rate. 3" coil and I'm sitting at about 2" because of all the weight. Either way I'm running the set up as is for the next couple trips. I probably only have about 800 miles total on the setup and the majority of that is street.

Interesting. I have never seen anything like that.

Nah his valving is in the shock body on the shock shaft like any other shock. It’s the dividing piston that’s in the reservoir instead of the shock body. Same as any other remote resi shock. Most quality shocks as far as I know are either IFP (Internal Floating Piston) or Remote Resi with the Floating Piston in the resi.

The only exception to this would be an remote resi with adjusters. That would add an additional valving stack into the resi.

I have resi's, he doesn't. Whatever it is, Kyle told me it would be easier to revalve mine than his because I have resis.

Would be the same. You just have to know what depth to set the IFP at on an internal.

Ya shocks stayed under the bed with the archive shock relocation. want to say i'm just under 1" of shaft left at full bump can't find that pic but here's this.

That's kinda what i was worried about going 700#. The icons already come with 650's from what iv'e read and like you said Digressive aren't very common to tune so not much info out there that i've found. Thank you for the info though.

They are a 13" 650lbs spring though. You wouldn't notice a drive ability difference with a 14" but you could add more preload if it was desired. Tuning a digressive shock is definitely doable, just not commonly practiced.

Maybe he thought I had clickers. I don't. Mind you a lot of this talk was after hours of standing around drinking.

Check out Dobinson, they have a lot of different variations you might like. Heck on the KDSS 5th gen, they have 4-5 different types of rear springs. On non-KDSS models they have even more variations! They are based in Australia like ARB.

Yeah. I like the progressive coils from MT and I know Dobinson can do the same type. Lots of 4th gen guys have been running them and I know I can get specific coil rates from them.

Oh! He has IFP shocks then. Like @IEatA$$ said below, it's just a matter of setting the depth of the floating piston.

Yeah that's true, the adjusters have their own special valving in the clickers. Not sure if those can be tuned or not though. I think it's more like a bleed hole that opens and closes to varying degrees to limit the flow rate. Could be wrong though

Correct. all valving is right on the piston. I was saying that Danny's will be easier because he has the resi. Once you take the coil spring off, the shock turns into the same as a smooth body shock. Super simple when it comes to shocks. Because mine do not have resi's, I have a needle valve (IFP) running down the center of the shock body. And that is the big unknown for me. I haven't ever pulled one apart a IFP Shock.

And no, I never did get the actual shim stack specs from ADS. I know that they do put a flutter stack in there and I think it is 0.12 because they recommended re-valve to 0.015 shim stack on the compression stroke.

Good thing it's only my rears that I'm not happy with at the moment because that means we don't have to take the coil off the front. I'm not ready to take apart brand new shocks yet though.

The Fox DSCs are a combination of the two. Not as familiar with other manufactures adjusters yet. Still trying to find someone with Kings that need a rebuild and will let me tinker.

The needle is the exact same as a schrader, minus the specialty tool. It's the same design, just limited so the general public doesn't see a schrader valve and fuck with it.

That's no fun. I even have the tool to take ADS shocks apart.

The schrader valve is just hiding behind a little cap on the ADS Shocks so at least they did that right so I don't need a tool to bleed and recharge.

Needle valve? You may be confusing King style IBP (Internal Bypass) shocks now? Unless I'm the one confused.

Quick search of the google machine for an IFP diagram and came up with these...

And another for the folks that don't know the difference between IFP and Emulsion shocks. Emulsion shocks are no bueno.

And for shit's n giggles the King style IBP

Right, I have no idea what is inside my ADS shock body. I assumed it was a floating piston but when I was on the phone with ADS he said that I have to set the needle valve right... soooo no idea what ADS is running... but hell, lets just rip them apart and find out. I'm game.

Let's do it! I'm down to learn something new. Never rebuilt shocks myself, but looks easy enough. Can't be much more work than tearing apart bump stops.

Sounds like a party

Bump stops are air/emulsion shocks.

Haha, yeah I need to set my bumps and rear axle correctly before I start digging into my rear shock valving. I still have a good 2" of up travel I'm missing out on because of my bumps and the need to cut the rear body panels up to fit the 35s better.
