it was mostly a decision for our son to be able to grow up around his grandparents.

I had an opportunity to split a couple years ago before my ex got her shit together. Then she got sober so I had to stick around so my son could have a relationship with his mom. Unfortunately.

That is why I am still here.

My mom lives in Palos Verdes and my Dad and Sister live in Escondido.
Really would have liked to live someplace other than LA but not sure if thats gonna be in the cards until the kids are out of the house.

I’m staying here because of family, friends, job I’m comfortable at, AND I do feel that there is plenty of opportunity for my kid to grow up well rounded/worldly. I’ve already instilled a appreciation for camping and being outdoors, I don’t want him growing up not knowing how different cultures exist

California is special. Yes, for some 'special' is a superlative for something else, and that's fine, but California has it going on. It's the world's 7th or 8th (?) largest economy for a reason. There are billions of people in this world that would give tremendously just to be here. The melting pot that is California is invaluable and as much as I despise some of negatives, being from Southern California, could not be more proud to call this state home.

Raising children and living life is not about shutting out the world we don't agree on by moving to a state/place that enables and promotes a narrow view of life. I see it as incredibly un-American. We are a country founded on immigrants, multiple cultures and religions. Why people choose to shun that is beyond me. Maybe I'll get it one day, but if I had kids, California would be the only place to call home.
