Decided to see if I could put 5/8th lugs onto my front hubs with the tools I have at home. Used a spare hub as the test subject. Need to do this because the full floater I’m getting will have 5/8 lugs and having them all the same will be much easier to deal with. Turned out good and was much easier than I thought it would be. Just had to open up the holes in the wheels slightly and all is good.0FA500C6-9D72-461F-8B89-45FE9C4EC874.jpeg9B5E63C0-93E7-49E4-865D-7E0530877D66.jpegE9970CA1-27E4-4F9D-AF24-6956E7CBE2E1.jpeg816D6406-D2D3-463B-B5F1-C99EF365F0AD.jpegE22998CF-6BEB-43A8-92E4-036809700132.jpeg

You hit the hub right off the start with a 5/8" bit?

As you can see the knurl is larger than the 5/8 thread. The knurl is .672. The instructions say to drill the hole between .662 and .670 for a press fit. Well there I ran into a problem because the closest drill is 21/32 (.6562) too small and 43/64 (.6719) too big. But thankfully we have metric drills at my work and a 17mm (.6693) worked out perfect. So yes I hit it straight off with the 17mm because i used the drill tip to help center the drill in the hole then clamped the hub down on the drill press to drill it out.
The holes in my wheels are almost exactly 5/8. I opened them up about using a 17.5mm drill (.689) Did it freehand and everything fit just right. Being that these wheels are both hub and lug centric I shouldnt have any balance issues. Hopefully when I do these on my actual OEM hubs it will go as smoothly as the test one.

Was think about edge distance of those holes, but the outward force on the holes can’t be significant. Also, it’s not an airplane where you need 2d edge distance. ;)
Wow...havent heard the edge distance thing in awhile. Need 4d between holes too??? I'm a licensed A&P...but been out of the industry for close to 20 years now. Pretty sure that is just an aluminun thing. Working at Disney the last 20 years and almost everything being overbuilt steel...they have never heard of edge distance or even proper hole spacing for that matter. Even with the stock lugs you dont have 2d edge distance.

Did a run up the Peak last night with @Octanejunkie and the fog was real at times and then it was cold and windy at the very top. Really fun run and never off-roaded in fog that thick before. It got thick at times that even the amber lights were having a hard time. :help:

That picture was a clear section. :anon: It got so thick in areas I had to almost stop to see the trail.

I hope you had a fun run up the Peak?

HAHAHA, as we were going down the little hill near the towers, he even witnessed me 2x and 3x wheeling going down that damn little hill!!!:rofl::rofl::doh::deadbanana: I got hung up on one part on that F'N little hill and was rocking myself back and forth to gain grip/traction... Open diff issues!!!:deadbanana::rofl::rofl::rofl:

But going back up that hill was cake walk though putting it in 4lo as I just crawled right up with no issues at all.

Flew the flag too!!! :usa2:

Fun run, thanks for the invite, and for taking the lead. It was probably easier for me, following your taillights lol having never been there before it would have taken me hours in those conditionsPXL_20220529_175555897.MP~2.jpg

So had some mean bubble gurs working today and after some yard work i went to change shirts. Farted in the closet, threw on a shirt, left and closed the door. Im outside playing with my son and about 10 minutes later i hear my wife scream "oh my god babe did you fart in the closet?!"Anyway, It's the simple things in life that bring me joy...

@Airdog I ended up getting the jd fab howe pump kit. Its hurts spending all that on steering but now that im wheeling this thing I see a big need for it.

Thinking of regearing again. 4.56 to 5.29. Manual trans. What do you guys think? I went with 4.56 years ago because i still daily drove it. Now I dont drive and need more low end power. Is it worth it?

Depends on where your gears are for off road. I'd like to do 5.29s. I rarely touch 4th(1:1) on the dirt. I'd like my gears to be a bit closer. I have to hold my gears for a while before I can shift. 5.29s are weaker so you can't beat on them as hard.
