So your a whore for Simpson? lol
I learned my trade on the east coast. We don't have all the seismic crap that you guys have out here. Every thing gets nailed off at 6/12. My first job out here I get through a referral from one of the guys I worked with back east. I guess he talked me up pretty good to a GC in Santa Cruz. I met with the guy and got the job on the spot.
The next day I roll in and his foreman tells me to go nail off the south wall. They had just tacked the shear the day before. The wall was a gable end on a 5/12 slope two stories maybe 30 feet wide. I grab my gun and some nails and proceed to nail it off. That takes about 45 minutes.
I get done and ask what's next? The guy looks at me and says "Holy shit, you are fast". Then he goes over and looks over my nailing. He calls me over and goes "WTF is this"? What is what? I nailed off the shear. He then proceeds to tell me it's a 2 wall. A what? I'd never even heard of that before.
I ask to see the plans and sure enough it's a 2/12 wall with 3x at adjoining panels. I grab my gun and the whole box of nails and finish it up. After work I took the plans home and pulled up an online copy of the CBC. I was blown away by all the seismic stuff from foundation through the roof line. I learned a lot that night. What I learned the most was Simpson owns Cali buildings. lol
