Thought having a SOS thread could be helpful cuz you know shit happens when your having fun.

I’ll kick it off, buddy of mine is out at Ocotillo. Devils Slide specifically. Broke a cv axle in his 3rd gen and has never replaced one. Sent him a few articles to help get it yanked out.
Anyone out there this weekend?
Also what do you guys do to plug the hole if you don’t have a spare on you

He break the inner or outer? I know @AssBurns keeps spare end shafts to plug the holes. I'm doing the same with my broken ones.

Honestly don’t even know. Neither does he. The fact that he’s never taken it out the first place tells me he wouldn’t know if he broke the inner or outer. I’m gonna tell him worst case disconnect front driveshaft and get dragged to the road to get a tow truck. Devils slide is about a 10 minute drive to the road

Disconnecting the front driveshaft won’t do anything. 2wd and limp it slowly is the only option to keep moving with it still in there.

If he doesn’t have a spare, he’ll need to plug the inners and outers. If he broke an outer, then it’s easy to just pull the boot off and leave the stub shaft in the spindle. Then for the inner, the tripod joint just pulls out once you pull the boot off.

If he broke an inner, pull the axle out of the inner stub. For the outer he’ll need to break the cage on the outer CV to separate the stub from the axle shaft. Wear glasses and smack the fuck out of the cage with a BFH until all the ball bearings fall out.
