SPC is really close to releasing a retrofit kit to put their xAxis bushings in the 3rd gen arms. And will also soon be selling the arms with the xAxis from the start.

Here is the video for the 2nd gen taco arm, the one for the 3rd gen T4R will be available before the end of the year.

Are you running a TC spindle gusset? I am on mine and without running the ball joint in the furthest out position the gusset contacts my coil bucket and chunks it up. Just curious if there's a way around it because as of now I have to fix my alignment issues with the lower cams to maintain clearance up top

It helps to smooth out both sides around the corner of the spindle. Before and after pics.d462e3cdb6a66bc9b4086dfc900d6bd7.jpg39c542f899d80cff790f6ebe05c76c5f (1).jpg

I will be attempting putting these, as well as cam tab gussets when I replace my LCA bushings with White Line bushings, drop the front down, and start clearing for 35s.

I am currently on the G setting. (furthest wheel forward, away from firewall). This is the setting I hear most about the TC spindle gussets hitting the shock tower.

Do you think it is worth bringing the SPC back a few settings to help avoid contact, or just try to modify either the upper tower or gusset to gain clearance?

So what is the benefit of the xAxis joint over the stock bushings? Are they supposed to last longer?
Any idea when these will be available. I need these bad.

No Poly - noise free
Free rotating inner - no binding/twisting and no requirement to torque at ride height
Rubber isolation around joint - improved NVH
sealed/booted joint to prevent contamination

Do you have an approximate date of how soon? I just bought some SPC arms from Wheeler's over black friday and won't be able to install them until late this month or early January. I'm thinking I could maybe get the retro kit or send them back the arms for new ones with the new bushings already pressed in depending on how long it will be.

Have you already worn out the originals in the ones that come with the SPC UCAs? How much life do you expect to get out the old style?

As an alternative bushing upgrade for those with the poly bushing generation (mine are late 2017) of the SPC arms, I added 1" OD SAE 863 high load bronze plain bearings to my arms. I had to make a custom steel sleeve, which rotates inside the bearing.

  • They are really durable and low friction, especially with a grease zerk. No noise, low wear, and I can move my UCA with my pinky finger with zero slop! Since the ball-jointed UCA has pure rotation about the pivot bolt, they don't need any misalignment capacity.
  • The poly bushings that come in these arms have a massive 1" sleeve. Even after I downsized the sleeve to make room for the bearing, it matches the 7/8" diameter of the sleeves for poly bushings for OEM arms. I also used 1144 steel, so they are much harder and stronger than what would be used for most pivot sleeves.

I made the 1144 steel inner sleeves on my lathe, but the outer sleeves are off the shelf. I started with 7/8 OD turned, ground, and polished 1144 round bar from Speedy Metals, so the outer diameter has an amazing finish that I didn't have to turn at all.

I got the inspiration from a friend who makes similar kits for Miatas. Turns out stiction from poly is annoying on the racetrack, too :)

Well this isn’t good. The UCA has been riding against the gussets and is wearing through them now. Need to fix this ASAP. @Plastics Guy, got any solutions for something that’ll last longer?

Wether it be new bushings or just washers.

I’m gonna have to stop wheeling for a while and just focus on some maintenance. I’m finding so much broken shit.

I'm doing the same. My front end is shot. It literally drifts on the highway. Plus my front lockers toast. I just ordered the tie rods tonight. It's going in the garage for a while.

Once I get back from AZ, I only have 1 weekend before KOH. I really gotta stop planning trips for a while. Besides KOH, my February is pretty free to fix some long overdo stuff.

Do you have a 3rd gen 4runner? If you do then do the shere pin mod on the steering column. I did it on my 2000 Tacoma and it was night and day. Brought the steering back from sloppy seconds to first in line tight.

I have a 97. IMO 3rd gens are the best for serious offroading. Plus I don't give two shits if I scratch a 22 year old rig. lol

Thanks for the thought but that was done a long time ago. It's a combo of the tie rods and the rack. I can move my tires 1/4" from 3 to 9 with my pinky. lol

If the had washers on the inside of the bushings it would help share the forces pushing it back. Come up with a pipe that would slide over the outside of the stock tube the bolt slides thru. Weld a big washer to that. So it would end up looking like a top hat sort of.
