Just because it can hold up to a race, doesn't mean it's worth the extra work for marginal gains. They may be babying things to keep it from blowing apart, while I'd like to not really have to worry about that. My long term goal is to have the 4.7 V8 in the 4runner, so I need it to withstand the higher HP, more weight, and larger tires all while not having to baby it. That's the goal at least.

If you look at the build it's 3.5+ long travel with RCV Axles, an Atlas, and 35s on beadlocks. So if the 8" clamshell can hold up to a 4.7 V8 through a long travel beating and locked front/rear crawling in a race situation I'd say it's pretty well tested for strength. They're going to put that thing through a much more rigorous workout than we ever would on a typical run out. I doubt he's going to baby it.

Again that's like saying, yeah a Toyota buggy on 40's can make it up backdoor on toyota 8" axles, but they are probably going to break shit way sooner than the guy with a 14 bolt or any other 1 ton axle for that matter.
For roughly the same cost, why settle for the weaker option when you can have a 1 ton IFS diff that WILL hold up to major abuse rather than MAY hold up to abuse of the Hammers trails.

Check out this guys build on IG. He did a 1 ton IFS swap into his Colorado. Some beefy shit!! If you are willing to take the time and effort to do it, I’d say it’s a great idea, but I’d probably do something a little stronger than just an 8” diff. If your ballin, do a Currie F9, but most of us can’t afford that because if we could, we would probably be building an Ultra4 buggy by now haha. I really like the idea of a 1 ton swap. What front diffs do the new Tundras use? Something significantly stronger than 8” tacoma diffs?

I’ve saw this a couple weeks ago and it blew me away. Very cool idea and 38s are rad

Anyone made any progress on this? I’m really considering buying a tundra 9” front or maybe a taco 8” to make fitment easier
