Random idea I had for a thread today.

Gather a list of the compatibility between different models of Toyota's.

Example: FJ Cruiser/4th gen 4Runner/5th gen 4Runner rear shocks are great extended length shocks for 3rd gen 4Runners. Bolt right in, but have an inch longer compressed length on average.

I'll gather everyone's post and ad it to this post in a big list.

There's the obvious. FJ and 4th gen shocks are interchangeable as are the rear coils.

4th gen and 2nd gen Tacoma front shocks are the same. Pretty sure turd gen works too.

I know 4th gen and 5th gen coils are interchangeable because I sold some Superflexes to a 5th gen guy and he was happy with them, but the front/rear shocks are different.

Tundra rear shocks work on 4th gen 4runners, but I'm not sure what year Tundra. I'd have to dig into more. I wanna say you get quite a bit of travel but the only person I know running Tundra rears is Miah and he's like 3 1/2" lift on the rear.

I'm running fox 2.0 rears for a 4th gen with 2-3 inch lift on the rear of my 3rd gen with LC coils and ss bumpstop extensions/bumps. I haven't measured the collapsed and extended lengths but they bump perfectly with about 1/4in of shaft left. Would defintely be too long for stock bumps.

Great Idea!

Another shock is 1st gen Tundra front shocks fit 3rd gen 4runners. For the Bilstein 5100's, the tundra option has a longer extended length and shorter compressed length, while also having additional adjustment points over the Tacoma 5100's. I'd assume that the Tundra shocks have more shock dampening than the Tacoma shocks as well, but I have not verified this.

Just re-using the runner springs for that Tundra 5100?

You can for little to no lift but I’m using the Toytec/Eibach coils
Have a link? Maybe I'll go this route. How do you like this setup? I dont want much lift and want to stay on the cheaper side of things.

Was talking spindles earlier with @PermaBan and it made me think about this.

4th gen 4runner spindles are NOT compatible with 2nd gen Tacoma UCAs.

I forget what we measured the difference as, but it was like 1mm off on the top hole in the spindle. The 4runner is just slightly smaller. I had picked up a set of Tacoma spindles that were gusseted, and they wouldn't work with my camburg uppers. I had to get Tacoma uppers to work with the spindles.

The brake caliper bolts on the lc 80 are the same pitch and diameter as the tow hitch bolts and will work. I do believe that they’re not the same grade and should only be an emergency swap.

Same for the 4th gen. Although you have to cut them down because they're longer.

How about rear shocks from a 4Runner? Does it fit to a Tacoma?
