When I first got the truck

These photos on everyone's build threads always crack me up because the huge transformations really make you feel like the trucks growing up or something LOL.
I honestly don't remember the mileage on the truck when I got it. I believe it was 233k. It's now been a couple years and i'm coming up on 260k.

A little bit about me;

I'm 24, grew up in Las Vegas, currently I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan. ( Beer City USA, damn right ). I've lived in like seven states though so chances are i've been through most of the areas everyone on the forum occupies. I've done all sorts of hands on work, most recently I built differentials and trained associates on build for the biggest semi reman company in the world.

That is the extent of my professional experience actually wrenching, and how I became interested in keeping my 2000 SR5, instead of flipping it. Originally I had bought it for $2200 bucks and planned to try and get $3K for it because SUV's always sell for more once you bring them into the city and clean them up. Anyways, i'm a 24 year old full time college student going for business admin with a focus on entrepreneurship currently in my sophomore year.

Hey you made it over here! Welcome to the shitshow!

Stoked to see your LT and 4-link happen :beerscheers:

I appreciate you telling me about the site. I like this, a smaller group of people that are actually engaged and posting critical thinking content, not just hey my 4runner wont start please help lol. The LT will be incredibly expensive but I plan on bouncing a lot of ideas around and seeing what you did with your 4link. I want to fab everything up and I'm the type to go with it. I just bought a complete manual swap from another 2000 SR5. Complete with interior components etc. It rolls over smooth like butter but I'm going to at the least put all new bearings in the trans, inspect and flip gears. Might wait to do that swap untill i do this 4 link and rear gas tank swap. I like to work on my truck in phases with multiple jobs in the same location so I wont need to rework anything. I just picked up a multimode tcase that I want to mate with the manual trans. If I did that swap and the 4link and my diffs / rear housing all swapped at the same time that's a lot of parts off the truck allowing me to go back in and clean / check for any signs of rust and prevent it. It will be a fun time on here with ya guys. I'll bring some content. I'm waiting on the damn sand dunes to open but they're closed due to this virus. Tf.

Build Phase One: Get it dialed in.

Both Coastal Offroad High Clearance bumpers were ordered with a 1” body lift with future long / extended travel capabilities in mind. Getting the truck dialed in at this point of the build is only aesthetics due to the fact that the truck was heavily maintained last year with all OEM parts. I have done OEM Crankshaft Seal, OEM Cam Seals, New Aluminum Radiator, OEM Toyota Coolant Flush, OEM Water Pump, OEM Timing Pulleys, OEM Timing Belt, OEM Cleaned and Flowtested Fuel Injectors, ran all new exhaust, New Magnaflow Cat, New Borla XR-1 muffler dropped in front of the rear axle, OEM Valvecover Gaskets & Halfmoons. I'm sure there is more i'm forgetting.

20200306_123251.jpg20191019_114114.jpg20190802_184650.jpgonetevele.jpg

Step one: Purchase all parts needed to dial in appearance and functionality of truck.

Parts Needed:
  • 1” Body Lift $129.99
  • 1” Diff Drop $30.99
  • Polyurethane Body Mount Bushings (E.S.) $172.79
  • Parking Brake Cable (Rock Auto) $30.79
  • Front and Rear Differential 5.29 Conversion Parts
  • Rear housing and differential armor welded on.
  • ToyTec Superflex Springs DISCONTINUED LOOKING FOR A NEW OPTION
  • Rad Rubber Extended Engine Splash Guards $59.95
  • EDIT: Added Headlights and Taillights $310.39

Front and Rear Differential Rebuild Information:

Part Numbers and Cost:
  • Pinion Bearing Outer - Toyota (90366-30067) Front Outer $46.73
  • Pinion Bearing Inner - Toyota (90366-35087) Rear Inner $68.23
  • Side Bearings - Toyota (90366-50007) Case Side (Small) $43.26
  • Side Bearings - Toyota (90366-75001) Case Side (Big) $27.42
  • Pinion Seal - Toyota (90311-38047) $6.76
  • Revolution 5.29 Ring and Pinion (T8-529V6-29) $210.00
  • Toyota Transfer Indicator Switch: B&A 201-1788 (Rock Auto) $11.51
  • 29 Spline Flange YOKT35082 (Rigid Axle) $57.75
  • Elocker Studs: MCHT-344 x2 MCHT-345 x8 $40.00
---------------------------------------------------------
Total Rear Differential Cost: $471.66
NOTE: These bearing part numbers are for an E-Locker. If you have a regular differential you would order two of the small size case side bearings. You can also save yourself a grip of money if you just order a regular bearing kit for your locker and then order this locker bearing separate. In my experience "locker bearing kits" are far more money and literally the locker bearing is CHEAPER than the regular case side bearing. GO FIGURE. LOL.

Part Numbers for Front Differential:
  • Side Bearings - Toyota (90368-50006) $38.81 x 2 = $77.62
  • Pinion Bearing Inner - Toyota (90366-35023-77) $68.63
  • Pinion Spacer - Toyota (41231-22010) $12.95
  • Pinion Seal - Toyota (90311-38066) $9.81
  • Pinion Bearing Outer - Toyota (90366-30078-77) $32.77
  • Output Shaft Seal Left - Toyota (90311-47027) $13.24
  • Output Shaft Seal Right - Toyota (90311-47013) $14.40
  • Output Shaft Bearing - Toyota (90903-63008) $39.01
  • Revolution 5.29 Ring and Pinion (T7.5-529R) $180.00
---------------------------------------------------------
Total Front Differential Rebuild Cost: $448.43

Toytec Parts: $446.65
Rock Auto Parts: 233.80

Phase one : $1,648.78

I've been in the process of finishing up my Coastal front and rear bumpers. I have a build thread here. Anyhow, I decided to paint them myself in-case I ever needed to touch them up after wheeling. Powdercoating wouldn't really allow me this luxury. Instead of spray painting I went with an HVLP gun.
Primer sprayed on nice and smooth. :beerscheers:

Bumper1 (1).jpgBumper2 (1).jpgBumper6 (1).jpgBumper4 (1).jpgBumper3 (1).jpg
I do everything at once, I knew I was going to install the body lift, at that time it didn't make sense not to order the poly bushings, as mine were shot. I went with the Energy Suspension kit. These bushings changed the ride quality noticeably even more than my Bilstein 5100's when they replaced the blown out OEM struts. (Those didn't last long in the sand dunes LOL) Torque spec on those mounts is 25 ft/lbs. Job is incredibly easy.

When I did that I also tore out all the carpet from the truck. In phase two of my build, I plan on spraying Lizard Skin on the interior everywhere from the windows down. The reason I ditched the carpet is because of the sand, you can't ever vacuum it all out. I intend on having the Lizard Skin to give me the functionality of blowing out the interior with an air compressor, or if shes muddy then just a good old fashioned hose. I can then also ditch my WeatherTech mats, which I do recommend if you have carpet. Lizard Skin is a product that doesn't produce any toxic fumes, so it's great for the interior of a vehicle, bedliner or canned rubber whatever you wanna use isn't meant to be inhaled for long amounts of time. Lizard skin also offers variations of the rubber spray, I'm going with noise deadening and topping it with insulation and then a top coat.

I finally picked up a multi-mode t-case to mate up to my R150 swap, I got the cluster and a brand new clear plastic front for the cluster from Toyota. I plan on painting the t-case and the transmission housings, I need creative ideas for those lol.

posts arent finished yet. this takes a while to start the thread because I have so much undocumented online up to this point. plenty of pics to come though.

For me I'm looking at obtaining a certain return on investment for each transaction according to my business plan. While every entrepreneur seeks this I plan to through remanufacturing / fabrication / mechanical work. 5 years tops and promote someone to run the company and I go chase a startup that seeks venture capital. I'm seeking major gains. You may look 40 but when everyone else that didnt bust their ass looks 40 you'll still look 40 maybe younger and you'll be doing whatever you wish. Dont act like being your own boss and putting in the work doesnt yield reward ;) i appreciate it!!! Keep watching it will get even better

This is why my build takes forever. I have all these plans and phases of my build and then I wakeup one day and decide its the proper time to buy headlights and taillights. One of my headlights looks like it got shot with a BB gun so its got a bunch of condensation in it and I have a bulb out in the rear now so here we go. Ill post pics upon installation. These will look dope in my all black 3rd gen. The headlights are still glass and from what i've read are high quality. If this is all true then ill retrofit them at some point.

My passenger tail light assembly has been cracked for awhile. I've got a new one in the garage from a set I bought when I replaced the driver side, just haven't done it yet.

What brand are they? I had Vision headlights that wouldn’t separate because of the type of butyl they use. Most aftermarket blacked out lights are Eagle Eyes and should be good to go.

Brand name is Anzo for the headlights. However, Jegs had them on backorder, I cant stand it when I buy something on ebay and then it doesnt exsist. In my short retail life i've learned backorder means we dont make this shit anymore sonny D. Last time i got something on backorder it took the company 4 months to tell me there is no way they can get it made. that was a tool to hold my crank for the timing job lol.

You haven't been around long but @Mike_taco4x4 and @4runner DOA lead the class in lazy. The amount of shit those two can put off is truly legendary.

What's your load in the rear? How much lift you looking to get? Got @eimkeith PCK yet?

I've got you beat. Tacoma windshield has been cracked since 4 months after I bought it. Never replaced it because we were doing a lot of road trips and I kept getting hit by rocks so I said fuck it. That was in 2006.

All I need to do is make a phone call and insurance covers the replacement. It's picked up a few more cracks along the way and one is starting to actually make me nervous. Might be time to handle it.
