... and while I’m deep in the engine bay, the water pump, pulleys and serpentine belt.

Alternator (is starting to make noise) and Water pump are original on my 160k miles ‘05 4.0L,

I’m thinking of getting all the parts at my local AutoZone because I get 25% off and the stealership prices are ridiculous.

As with all the other shit I’ve done to my truck, this is my first time doing this.

Any words of wisdom?

Pic for attention.

Might also be a good time for the "big 3" wiring harness upgrade and possibly a bigger alternator.

AutoZone alt is cheaper haha. I paid 450 shipped for my 240a alt. Big 3 alone will get a bit more out of the 130a alt though.

Mechman or some other brand?

I'll have to dig up the website, it was a local to southern California place. Wanna say I'm on year 3 and I believe it came with a 2 year warranty. It's been dunked under water a couple times, blasted with dust regularly, and seems to be running fine still. I have my stock 130 as a backup.

Tell me more about the “big three” upgrade.

Fuck. I’m not ready to spend $450 on an alternator
I've heard some folks saying you can get your alternator rebuilt with much higher amperage for like $200 or so. Search your area for places that rebuilt alternators.
Also look into the CS144 alternator. Not sure what vehicle you have, but they put out 140 amps and are an OEM alternator that can be found at pretty much any auto parts store. Go to the first post of the link I posted above.

You run 1/0 gauge from body to battery and engine block to battery for grounds and 1/0 from starter (or alt I forget which) positive to battery positive. Essentially bypassing the stock wiring which is tiny and opening up the voltage flow.

Makes sense. I didn’t even think to check pulley size TBH. But so far so good.

It's barely smaller and I ran the 4.0 belt for awhile before someone on t4r asked me if I was using a smaller belt because the pulley was smaller and he was. I'd think if the tensioners were worn out you could run into some issues.

Yeah they came up in my googling when I was going to put a HO on my 2nd gen. Then I totaled it so..

Thought my current one was dead and I was having issues keeping the house battery charged so though a HO would solve the problem and they were local enough to get it to me overnight free of charge. Probably would have been fine with just the big 3, but I'm glad I updated.

Ordered the alternator.

What about pulleys and water pump? Any recommendations?
