Thought this may be relevant in here. About to get a new set of tires from America’s Tire. What are your guys thoughts on getting their certificates? Worth it? Anyone that has gotten it had any issues with a claim from an off roading incident?

Road hazard is cheap insurance, just don’t tell them it happened off road lol.

Totally worth it. You’ll still have to pay a small fee (around $40) for the replacement mount/balance and new cert. I’ve been tagged once for $80 because the closest replacement needed to be shipped but way better than full cost

Sweet. Thanks guys. You made up my mind. Lol.

@Itaro Danny said you’ve been driving your truck around with 285’s and 4.88’s? How has that been?

Get them. The guys I go to don't even ask anymore. Mostly because I take the blown tire off and take it over in the back of the Tacoma so they haven't seen the rig in awhile. Hahaha.

It’s a fucking go-cart. Fully loaded with RTT, 500 extra lbs of steel, ass-ton of camping bullshit and I’m able to accelerate up hills. Before I was creeping along at 60ish and hating life. Mileage is about the same from what I can tell so we’ll see what I get around town

I’ve only done it once on my old car and it was extremely convenient. I haven’t done it on my offroad vehicle yet. I always seem to find/buy tires through some sort of deal instead of going through my usual tire shop. I just take the tires there for mounting. I got lucky once and got a set of 4 brand new Pro-Comps for $270. Saved 66% off sales price. Last set I got for a way better deal on amazon than any tire shop I called, so I wasn’t able to get any sort of warranty. I’ve always been pretty lucky with not slashing many tires either (unlike @4runner DOA). 2 tires total and that’s pretty impressive I’d say with the amount of stupid shit I do. Last one was an old worn out tire so I wasn’t too mad.

But I guess back to the topic of your question. If you get a good enough deal on tires through a shop, then definitely get a warranty. If you do what I’ve done and find better deals through a third party, then obviously you can’t.

Most of my slash/replaced tires was when I was running duratracs. I've had 1 km2 puncture, but something nailed it on the inside. I've got sidewall slashes right now that I'm not worried about.

Thought I was about to get a good deal with America's Tires matching Amazon prices, but when they saw how low it was, they changed their mind. Then showed them the Discount Tires Direct invoice that I currently have open and they told me at the store they couldn't match it. (even though they're the same company). Might just save the extra $140 and wait till the tires from DTD get in (said could be a few weeks or even a few months) and put that $150 towards getting my regear done. Have 14/32 on my current tires currently so I'm not in a super big hurry to get them in. Just kind of a convenience thing

In that situation just go wherever has the best deal. No rush means save your money for gears and lockers.

Check https://www.tirebuyer.com/
Most shops go through the same distributor and these are probably some of the best prices you can find. There’s typically extra discounts if you send the tires to a shop on their approved list for say $40 off, the tire itself is also $20 off just because. Add in some other promotion like a holiday sale and could see $50-$60 off per tire total. Ends up being wholesale price sometimes
I used to work at a shop and lost a fair amount of business to this website even though they were actually one of my major distributors

If you get them on DTD, you can still get certs for them. I got mine added when i had them mounted and balanced at my local DT. Supposedly you can add them in your cart (Ebay) but I couldn’t find it.

I’d call and double check, either with DTD or your local store, but it didn’t seem like a big deal for them to add it after the fact

I’ve used the DTD warranty a couple of times. I asked when I bought them if it covered offroad use. I was assured that it did.

When I needed to use the warranty, I told them that I cut the sidewall on a rock while off-roading. It was not an issue.

Yep. I just call them, tell them to order one because I slashed it, and then go drop it off when it comes in. No questions asked usually. Except how did I fit a 315 on a 2007 4runner. Haha.
