I use Stanley squares. Speed and framing. They're true, they're cheap, and you can buy them anywhere
Not that you can't true up a framing square anyway, if it's off.

Although I didn't use my framing square much while framing. Intersecting roofs, raker walls, bout it.

Anyway,
So I mounted the TV on the wall.
Mount has a built in "level".

Lulz.

My Stabila argued with it. My Stabila won.

On another note, I found a Milwaukee cordless tool I fucking like.
Went and bought a new 1/4" hex impact for the company.
Milwaukee 18v Surge line.
Has good power, yada yada.

But FUCK boys it is QUIET. Normally you've got a ton of noise out of an impact.
This thing can be 3" from my head, and I don't need hearing protection.

The speed select is still in a shit spot, the batteries are still too dimensionally large, and the belt hooks still suck, but it's quiet as hell. My DeWalt is like firing a rifle compared to this thing.

If they make a cordless 3/8 or half drive impact that quiet, I'll make the plunge. Holy shit.

"not a straight edge" love it
I like putting signs on my equipment that says "dangerous death cactus - do not touch" Most places I get to once a year or longer so a random office chimp will likely try and fiddle with the cables at the first hint of a problem w/o thinking.

I cowboyed up for a set of Stabila levels, and some little chotchmonkey at work, on my first day bringing them, decided he'd use my 4' as a straight edge to cut cement board. Clamped to the piece and everything.

I near shit my shorts.

ohh.. chotchmonkey would have bought a slightly used stabila for the price of a new one and a 12pk for atonement.

was muttering about starrett on the couch, wife leaned over looked at the phone and asked... ya, more tools? like you need these?? Kindly explained that had my family not been shit, probably would have gotten a set hand me down, they are the rolls royce of tools but could never justify a new set. sigh.... 'want them for your birthday?' (nov22).... so I'm getting this:

and damn you and the hydro drive. I have tinnitus (shootin/concerts/life) and f me, ears are ringing for a week. if I'm being stupid and not wearing ear protection. guess I'll be playing with one at home de-pot later. shit have 2x regulars and brand new one hasn't even been trigger tested yet. (like tongs, gotta snap those things a few times to make sure they work)

Try it. I think DeWalt and Hilti both make them too. Gotta go up the line.

Can say I've never even heard of Starrett before this topic. Likely won't ever own anything from them.

Told my fiance I want parts, not tools for Christmas. Parts of can just hand numbers over for. Tools are a finicky bitch to buy.

dont tell me what to do, I can get into plenty of trouble all on my own! haha..
Starrett is the original combo square. If you do finishwork or anything close to it (hopefully now the weather is....brisk, you are inside now), Incra layout rulers are insanely useful and cheap.

My company seems to think that I can't do finishing work because. . .

Well there really isn't any real reason. They just think that.
So I'm outside doing some metal siding. And will be outside periodically all winter.
Woot.

The joys of being on a job start to finish instead of specializing.

Uhhh...

Not following.

You want to know what the word we use to describe stupid sayings is?

I mean in some cases they're idioms, in others they're colloquialisms...

Anyone have any experience with electric bit sharpeners?

I have a set of Milwaukee shockwave impact drill bits, and they're starting to see some wear.

Naturally, I can't buy individual bits.
And I'm not spending 110 bucks to get a 1/16, 3/8, 5/32, and 13/32, along with 28 other bits I don't need.

So I'd like to get a sharpener. Can't get the fancy split tip back on there, but at least they'll be sharp.

Yes they're the chip breaker bits, although the sizes under 1/4 don't use that as it'd be too small to really achieve anything.

I'll look into that sharpener. See if I can get it somewhere that isn't Amazon.

Just grab the bench grinder and sharpen them. You can make a template if you want, 17.5 deg angle on the cutting edge, then releave behind the cutting edge a little more so it doesn't drag.

I just do it by eye these days, but somewhere I have the gauge I made in highschool.
