Been cutting aluminum on a regular chopsaw for years. 1/4" thick angle was a bit too much(or I fed it too fast).
Anyone have experience with a good slow speed non-abrasive chop saw?
Bandsaw is getting old for cutting ferrous stuff too.

I have a Makita LC1230, its an ok unit, but a few of things I wish where better r... The clamp sucks, its always getting caught up on the deck, I have to use a square to make sure the angle adjustment is where I need it rather then relay on the build in gauge, and it made in China.... wish I had know said beforehand and would have looked for something higher-end. I went with it because of other Makita tools I have but wouldn't buy it again.

That is slow enough and exactly what I was looking for.
Looks like it has a quick release on the vise rod. Does it have detents on the angle stop?
I'll have to check Monday when I get in. We do almost exclusively 90° cuts for angle iron, round stock and flat stock to repair liftgates and box frames

Tripped me out the first time I used it too. Picked up the fresh cut with my bare hands and not even a little heat in it. 4 years and only replaced the blade once and I assume that's because the guys don't let the tool do the work for them and rush the cuts

Even my bandsaw pits heat into the piece.
I toasted my thumb after I cut that aluminum on the chopsaw. I am definitely ready for the right tool.

Do any of those kinda saws have a good clamp/vise tho? Haven't used many but i've yet to use one with a clamp that's even decent imo much less okay - good

They look and act similar to the clamp on an abrasive saw and on my horizontal bandsaw. Generally the higher quality the saw the better the clamp assembly. I have an abrasive saw that I hate but the clamp is good. Old Delta
