I moved my battery and beat it back pretty far. I only ever notice any rubbing when I bottom out hard when going fast. When in the rocks, I never rub up front (Besides frame). I rub the top of the wheel wells on hard hits (Like bump stops compressed enough for the mounting hardware to hit the strike plate and leave marks...

How tall are your current MTR's?

When I'm clearancing I've got about 1/2" from the tires to everything. I'm using my trans jack under the tire and lifting the weight of the rig onto the factory bump stop. Once it lifts off the jack that's what I'm using as true bottom out. If it doesn't hit under those conditions I'm not worried about it hitting with the coilovers in and @Plastic Guys bumps on.

They are a hair under 35" without being mounted on a wheel. I'll measure once I get them mounted and under weight.

I must hit the factory air box, since the airbox mounts broke off haha
I hammered it back as far as I could.

But will the snorkel get in the way?

Ummm, the snorkel still routes through the fucking airbox. lol

Beats the fuck out of me. I dont have an air box on the wheel well. My snorkel goes through the fender to the stock air hose that I cut out of my fender. The air box for the 4.0 is connected to the motor.

What're you guys doing to fit your interior trim after some more aggressive tubbing? Specifically 3rd gen 4runner

Tonight's hour in the garage.

Drivers side fender cut. I made a template from the passenger side and used that so the two sides are pretty close to identical.

Drivers side foot well cut. I still need to get the tire on and cycle it.

Those that can't weld self-tap. Passenger side sheet metal kinda in place for now.

I also found out my factory airbox no longer fits. Look like I'll have to get a cold air intake. Not happy but it is what it is.

@AssBurns How do you not hit the factory airbox? If I'm hitting that I'm gonna be hitting the battery tray as well. This just keeps getting better and better. lol

dude, how are you still not done yet? :boink:@AssBurns had my truck done in an afternoon by himself while @Mike_taco4x4 and I sat and drank beer. hahahaha

I like the self tappers. seam seal that bitch and call it good.

This is definitely on my to do list sometime next year but for now I am taking a page out of Ripcords book and adding a 1" body lift and hammer the pinch welds. Unless I can find someone that can help out with the welding part.

@AssBurns will help. He loves tubbing more then wheeling.:fencing:
Watch you mouth. Sheet metal work is by far my least favorite part of welding.
might have to send him a dm. I actually picked up a tow hitch from him last year.
Yup I remember you! Hope you are putting that hitch to use.

As for tubbing the wheel wells, I'm not going to be doing that again anytime soon (besides @theesotericone's rig, which I promised him I'd do it a long time ago). Maybe in a few months when I have some more time and I'm not burnt out on sheet metal work. Reach out to me after January and we can see how I feel then. As you can see, I'm not a big fan of sheet metal work. ;)

I'm sure he painted a bathroom, installed a new 6x6 post and mailbox, planted 4 trees, removed a 100g water storage tank, and drew up plans for a kitchen remodel in that time too. Yep, an hour once or twice a weeknight is what I got to work with for the rig. It'll be done when it's done.

The self tappers are just to help align the sheets and keep my balls from getting frozen when I drive it down to @AssBurns to do the welding next month. They do work pretty damn well though.

Tonight's 45 minutes in the garage.

I finished clearancing the drivers side foot well.

I also took care of the rub in the battery area. Beat the living shit out of it with a big fucking hammer. So, the good news is that my tires got 1/2" clearance now.

When in doubt smash it out.

Then the bad news. Pushing the underside up caused this:

Fuck it. It's an AGM battery and they don't have to be run level. As long as the hood doesn't hit the negative terminal I'm calling it good enough. The factory welds are still strong and I can shake the truck using my battery box so structurally it's fine.

That's pretty much what happened to me too. I noticed the battery was way tilted, so I turned the battery 90* and beat it some more. I don't notice any rubbing now. Did the same thing to the passenger side at the air box, but I just kept going until I started pushing the air box up a little.

I have a Ballastic Fab battery tray so I'm fine just letting it tilt. As for the airbox. Mines 2" higher now. It won't mate to the air sleeve. So, I just ordered some ABS sheets and some plastic weld from Big A. The plan is to cut the back of the airbox in the shape of the new contour then weld it back up. It should work. I think.

Did you have to relocate your ADD vacuum can? No way mine can stay where it is even if I move it all the way up. I have space behind the bumper in that location but I have to remove the damn bumper to put it there. lol

When I turned my battery 90*, I stuffed it in that extra space between the battery and fender. When I was 2wd for like 9 months, I took the ADD canister out and couldn't remember where I put it, so now I just cut down 16 penny nail in the vacuum hose with a zip tie. No issues yet.

So you just plugged the line. Nice. That's just what I wanted to here. How long have you been running like that?

Since before Dusy. Haven't noticed a single issue yet. When I first fixed my 4wd, I forgot about the canister and noticed that it didn't engage the ADD tube, then I plugged my thumb over the vacuum line and I heard it almost immediately engage. I bet I can get away without ever running the canister again.
