How I weld. Mostly because the machine I borrowed sucks and is flux core. Partly because I have no idea what the fuck I'm doing and I'm making it up as I go along.

My shitty welds.

Steven knows me. There will be no burning it out. lol

I'm a carpenter by trade so have a very solid understanding of what will and will not work. The welds I'm able to get with this unit are more like 100 tacks. Out of those 100 about 65-70% are solid. Before I committed to the Steel Stick idea removed my temp self tappers and beat the crap out of that sheet with a 5lb lump hammer. That sheets not going anywhere.

Since there was some void still that left a prefect spot to push the steel stick into. It forms a very good bond on the seams it's applied to. The question is whether is will hold the metal on either side. I cleaned the crap out of it with a wire brush and some brake cleaner before applying. Once the undercoat gets applied I believe that the steel stick will be just fine.

I've seen a lot of other tub jobs. While they are all most likely more solidly welded then mine not many have a "finished" look. Being able to smooth out the steel stick with a metel polishing grinding blade makes it almost look professional. At least I think so. lol

yeah, sorry; - commenting from day job perspective. what you did will be just fine, won't leak, and as you said, looks better than a lot of tub jobs on the net. :)

No need to apologize man. I totally understand where you're coming from. I walk through friends homes all the time and have to refrain from saying "Who the fuck did that work?" a lot. lol

I just ordered some more Steel Stick from Big A. I also picked up a 6 pack of 3M Rubberized Undercoating. That should be plenty to do the whole truck. The 6 pack was cheaper then buying 3 cans separately. lol

Looks better than what I'm likely capable of. Hahaha. Function over form though. Good job.

Yeah, you won't believe the guys I work to live up to in my day job: better than Germany in most cases; it's a crucible for us newcomers (I'm 20 years in and a newcomer.) - that said, I have no inhibitions with cut and paste at this point; I say bring it on, we can do this! :)

You guys are all the way at the door hinge. Mounting new front glass at the moment might as well make it easy when 35s happen.

The airbox is back in. Couldn't modify it because of where the filter sits so I beat it down till the hood closed. It's only got 2 mounting point now and only one is factory but the intake tube and MAF bolted back up so that's a plus.

Also moved my aftermarket electrical up and out of the way and got them relocated. The battery is also back in and the hood closes without contact. It's still tilted but whatever. lol

Got the fronts finished yesterday. Shocks are back in and the tires are back on. It started right up so I didn't burn anything important with my shitty welding skills. lol

The rears still need to be finished. I've decided to take @AssBurns up on his offer to help tub this thing. I also have something from @eimkeith that he needs to weld up so I'll kill two birds with one stone. The fun parts gonna be driving 5 hours with two big ass holes in the rear quarter. lol

So by next Sunday this little 1 month 1 hour at a time project should finally be finished. Which is a good thing. That means I can take the rig out and see what else I can break. I haven't reported to the trail carnage thread in a while. lol

lol the difference between us and a fab shop. Gives me something to work for, but then I get lazy and want it done.
