So trying to get some ideas on basic things to replace, upgrade or watch on 1st gen Tundras. I’m new to the tundra world, but the front suspension is the same as the 3rd gen 4runner that I am used to. So what things should I add to my list of must do modifications? Not only offroad performance stuff but things in general. Like the big thing on 3rd gen 4runner’s is the @eimkeith PCK. Stuff like that is what I’m looking for.

1st on the list is @Plastics Guy Duro Bumps.

Is it a v8? @Brindybot 4runner has the same V8, I’m sure he’d know anything to keep an eye on
Yeah it’s the V8 with the VVTi. These are the famous “Million Mile Engines”, so I’m pretty confident in the motor itself, but it’s always good to know the little quirks to look for on them.

Replace the lower arms. 1st gen tundras have lbj issues. Not a fun part to fail.
Also what year. 2005 is the bees knees with the vvti and 5speed. Also had more hp than the 06 from what I remember.
There was a company called Lexani (I think) that made cams for the 4.7 and it have it something stupid like almost 400hp from what I remember. Besides that they are solid motors and trans. I have 140k and besides the water pump at 99k just general maintenance, not a single issue with it

Idk if I’ll replace the lower arms unless I got some reason do LT. Not in the plans (yet). I’ll just keep doing what I’ve been doing on my 4runner, which is just use moogs and replace them every summer. So far 50,000 miles and no issues yet.

Got a handful of Tundras dudes joining here recently and probably more on the way. A couple are first gen owners. We’ll tag them in here when they join.

I know front axles have been an issue for one guy, but his might have had vato zone axles when he got it. He went through I think 3 or 4 snapping off just inside the dif. Now he’s either back to Toyota axles or RCV.

Could do stock length arms you dont have to go LT. but yea if you're replacing LBJ every year I guess that won't be an issue.

Sweet. It’ll be nice to have more Tundra guys over here.

Good thing I don’t have any of those pesky front axles to worry about! :jerkoff:
I’m all too familiar with them on my 4runner though. Tundra/4runner/Tacoma all use basically the same CV axles with the tundras being longer and minor differences to the inner joints. I’d really like to go RCV on that as well.

We’ll see where this truck ends up. LT would be cool but I don’t really need LT on this when the 4runner will be getting LT hopefully sooner than later. I’d like to keep this truck pretty mild since it’s 2wd but I said the same thing about my 4runner 5 years ago...

I mean its 2wd so you might as well cage it and LT and make a nice v8 desert truck
