after checking out his IG profile, looks like he's modifying a 2nd gen tundra rack for a tacoma?

I got excited thinking there was an upgrade option for 2nd gen tundra haha

Can you explain what I'm looking at?

He's cutting a 2nd gen tundra rack to length for a Tacoma. Then he's going to move the mounting bolts on the taco sub-frame and install it.

The theory is that a tundra is a heavier truck than a taco, so the rack should take more abuse.

Results are mixed :), check my build thread...

There's two issues with the tundra rack, the gasket on the drivers side could be stronger, and the difference is size can cause bump-steer, especially in a stock width truck.

A bigger problem is the issue with seals on the 2nd gen rack. Guys blow them all the time. Supposedly its been fixed, but last year I watched a 2014 and a 2016 blow seals on the same trail literally 15 min apart

Tundras? The drivers side seal isn't well supported, and the gear teeth on the rack get a chance to chew it up on the way in, they built the rack backwards.

I've been slowly doing cad/research and making a new rack. Really don't want to do a swing steer. All the bushings are a headache. Rather bolt it in and be done.

Yep just finished my seals off last week. I had so much fluid in my inner tie rod boot I should have had the drain pan under it. Ended up with a Napa reman rack.

I just broke some teeth on my rack after 70k miles Was making a loud pop when turning in one direction. I went with a new oem rack and you can tell they changed the design. Hopefully it holds up but we'll see

The Napa remans are supposed to be OEM. We'll see how long it lasts with the abuse of 35s. Lifetime warranty at least. I'll probably keep an eye open for a burnt out takeoff and do a rebuild on it. That was the plan for this one but I needed the rack before I left on this trip and the core charge was 250 so I gave it to them.
