This is a personal build thread and not a shop vehicle for once :beerscheers:

After trading off my 99 4runner last year, i've kinda missed having a midsize to wheel (i'm a foolsize guy).

So enters my wife's daily driver ... bone stock 2016 TRD Pro.
Adjustments Copy (2).JPG

I've taken it offroad a few times over the years, but with it being her daily I've not hit anything excessive with it. I dont baby it, but until recently we've not had a good enough daily for her incase I broke it on a trip. We now have a two new trucks under warranty, so i'm less worried about breaking shit.

We're at 50K miles on the 4Runner now and it's going to be time soon for new tires. Wife is wanting bigger tires, so who am I to say no? :noidea:

Plans for he build:
2.5-3" lift, extended travel in the rear (still researching)
Full skids
Rock sliders
Lo pro front bumper for a winch
Body mount chop
255/80R17 Cooper Discover ST Maxx
Some bracing form @eimkeith

Wife and I both love the look of a stock 5th gen. Not big fans of the large full bumper replacements on the market anyhow. While i'll be wheeling it, it's still a daily for the wife for now (Bronco reserved, I just have to convince her to buy it :peep:) so keeping it as light as possible if key.

Now, it's time to bust out the credit cards and buy some cool stuff.

The guy that got my 3rd gen 4Runner had some SPC UCAs and REZFAB offset links and extended panhard bar that were brand new. He had bought them for his FJC and never installed them, so he just gave them to me

I had Total Chaos on my 3rd gen and really liked them, so I had intended to run uniballs on this project...but free is free. :noidea:

I went ahead and ordered matching upper links from REZFAB as well.

I've read these links work really well with Metaltechs extended travel rear coils. I was real happy with the Toytec Superflex I ran on the 3rd gen, but thats the limit of my personal experience. I may give the Metaltechs a try.

As far as coilovers and shocks go, i'm leaning towards Elka, Radflo, or Dobinsons. Still not sure which route I wanna go.

Be careful with metal techs rear coils. I've run their medium 2", heavy 3", and 2 different dobinson coils. The 2" metal tech do well for little to no added weight. The 3" heavy was fine with a rear bumper and swing out, until I loaded down with all my camping gear. I think it was the dobinson 677v that was the same as the metal tech heavy, and I finally settled on the 701v.

This is on a 4th gen so ymmv.

You also bring a FUCK TON of gear on trips. You can’t expect coils to hold a lot of weight like that unless they are high spring rate.

I actually don't bring that much anymore. The metal tech 2" medium coils held up just fine when I used to bring a lot more. It wasn't until I added the bumper and swingout that it took me 3 tries to get the right coils for the added weight. 5th gens are even heavier than 4th gens.

Good info to know. This build will be pretty low key. No rear bumper at all. I'll use a Factor 55 hitchlink out back for recovery. Interior will have camping gear only during trips. Case of water, case of beer, bag of clothes. I dont even typically bring a cooler or a fridge with me. I'm lazy as fuck...I typically roll into camp with a case of beer, pickles, and jerky.

Dobinsons is on top of my list. I was thinking of going with Elkas and not doing extended travel, but I kinda want a tad more lift and the flex out back.

When hitting up our local offroad parks, I also trailer my stuff. It's just easier all around for me.
