Thought you couldn't modify the frame? I'm glad to see you guys actually cut out the cross member for clearance though. Most *high clearance* bumpers don't do that on 4th gens.
The only portion of the frame we can modify is the rear cross member and the back of the frame for the sole purpose of installing an aftermarket bumper, so we used that rule to its full potential. Though we did not shorten the frame at all we saved about 3" out of the cross member being cut out.Thought you couldn't modify the frame? That definitely crossed my mind. I would just have to make a way for it to index on either side and maybe center so it doesn't slide all over the place. I think I'll still add the cleves mounts as not everyone has soft shackles and in the off chance that we lose ours or whatever it is nice to have the option. That will be a good way to drag ass on the cleves mounts and not frame rails as well.I vote no shackle mounts on the bumper and just use soft shackles. Save weight and time using a soft shackle. AND safer.
The builders looking good on the first picture where you yawning or making race car noises?Roll Cage - October 28, 2019
This thread has been quiet for some time now but we have been hard at work on the car.
One of the main things we have been doing is a lot of community outreach growing our marketing partnerships. One of our most recent companies to jump aboard the build is Black Rhino Wheels. We are super excited to get our beadlocks in and share some photos with you. We hope that they will be a great wheel for our car and hold up well at races. Everything we have heard from friends and what they have told us is that we will be extremely happy.
So let's get into what we have been up to recently.
We pulled the bumper off to get some photos of it off the vehicle as well as lay some welds down in the hard to reach spots. This is what it looks like off the car, we may add some more bracing on the corners and we also still need to add in some tow points for shackles.
We are pretty happy with how it has turned out. Now onto the roll cage. We started laying tube down one by one, notch by notch. This is our first attempt at a cage and we think it is going very well. We are to a point now where we only have a few tubes left to make than its time to tear it apart, fully weld the top and reassemble. The add gusseting and extra bracing where we think we need it. I'll let the pictures do the talking now.
So that's where we are at. As you can see we also picked up a fuel cell. We were planning on running a 32gal cell but ran into a 22gal for a great price and jumped on it. It will get us started but we will be accommodating for a 32 if we want to upgrade down the road.
The next step is to finish up the last few tubes then pull and fully weld the upper section of the cage followed by reassembly and full welding everything else. Then as I said before to do all-our gusseting and final bracing.
We need to figure out our rear firewall as well. We plan to accommodate the rear seats so we can go pick up the kids from soccer practice and take our friends out on the trails when we are not racing.
Looking forward to more updates as we continue to make great progress on the car!
That's all, for now, folks, Episode 2 of the series will be live later this week!!
Definitely car noises! The builders looking good on the first picture where you yawning or making race car noises?
So shout out to Black Rhino for helping us out and joining the team! We still need to order a few more for our spares but we are waiting on that for now.
Haha I wish dude!! We are excited to take this thing out in deep snow and air down to like 3 psi and let it chug. We will need to make some plexiglass windows first though! Maybe some seat heaters as well.Sweet. Order 4 "spares" for me. I'm tired of @Tetten giving me shit for blowing beads. Shoot me a PM and I'll give you the shipping address. Thanks. lol

Calling @Hank. Still have that extra FJ Case up in UT?Also, if anyone has a lead on a manual shift FJ Cruiser transfer case for an auto trans let us know.
There is one 20 miles from me for $285.Some more minor work on the roll cage, got the main B-Pillar dialed in with some advice from a friend. Looks much better and will be way stronger.
The Marlin Crawler kit is said to arrive at the end of the month. Tracking down shocks, hydro bumps, and RCV Axles in the meantime.
As well as working out the details on the rear 4link.
