Hit up the PA BS thread, until we get our shit together and start a dedicated thread for wheeling trips that's where we'll be talking about trips.

Cool. I poked my nose in there a little while back. I’ll keep up on the shenanigans there and post up whenever Lisa and I get ready hit some trails out here.

I wish somebody had gotten our whole run. We got like 3 seconds of launch and 6 seconds of crossing the finish. No turns or whoops (the three that were there). We had some good sideways action at the top of the hill at the last turn. I was almost full lock counter steered, standing on the throttle.

Getting sideways is dumb. Don't you care about your tire tread or door panels?

or roof for that matter?

wth do bead locks have to do with ROLLING your truck or wearing down your tread???

stop pushing the crack kevin damn

Well they have a shitload to do with Not rolling over.

Nothing to do with wearing down tread though. And anyplace that you’re gonna get sideways off road is gonna do basically zero against your tread wear. Hardpack has an entirely different coefficient of friction than pavement. But even if there Is tread wear, so what - that’s part where you pay to play. If we didn’t want to have any fun, we wouldn’t have done anything to our truck.

I have lots of fun in my truck without getting sideways on purpose and if you gonna tell me that getting sideways doesn't chunk up your tires then your obviously SMOKING the crack as well as pushing it.

and how the F do bead locks prevent you from rolling???

You can get chunking by driving in a straight line on hard trails. I’m sure there’s more when I’m sliding around having fun in 2wd. That’s fine. I’ll pay for that level of fun.

Ask every trophy truck on a race course why they run beadlocks. It’s sure as fuck not so they can air down to 5psi in the rock gardens.

I popped a bead at 18 psi climbing a short rocky section in 4low first gear. Somehow I dented the fuck out of my steelies which caused the bead to slip.

Then don't say "Nothing to do with wearing down tread though" If you want to wear your tires down by sliding around then go for it. but don't try to act like it does nothing to your tires

and I don't know any trophy truck drivers so why don't you just tell me how bead locks keep you from rolling

Yeah I've popped beads too, usually by getting sideways with the tires aired down. Hence one of the many reasons I keep it in 4wd and don't get sideways on purpose. Kevin want to push the crack though and try to convince me to run bead locks but there are WAY too many negatives for the very few positives.

I’m not sure where the tread wear thing is coming from. Fine. 2wd sliding and drifting will destroy tires. They’re a consumable, so fuck it. Lemme have my fun.

Beadlocks keep you from rolling by keeping the tire on the rim in hard corners.

Scenario: you’re in a pretty decent left curve at say 35 mph and the terrain is varied. The passenger side dips into an offcamber section of the trail and catches traction. Almost the entire weight of the truck is going to transfer to the outer sidewall of the passenger tires as they try to maintain the trajectory of the intended path. The rim is basically trying to push out through the tire.

One of two things can happen

Without beadlocks, the tires can slip off the bead and allow the edge of the rim to drop even lower in an off camber situation (placing the center of gravity and moment of rotation in reverse order) and cut into the earth (no more sliding) and cause a roll (some might call it a flop).

With beadlocks, your butthole puckers and you carry on about your day. Nervous laughter ensues.

You of all people should recognize the value of beadlocks, considering how many beads you’ve blown.

Alex won't admit they're better until he has some on his truck. :bounce:

This right here. When I was in high school this happened to someone I knew. It was an almost brand new Colorado that had 33's, lift, and I think coilovers. He was dicking around doing donuts in a grassy field when his tire slipped off the bead and his rim just sank into the dirt, and instantly stopped the wheel causing it to roll over. I've heard multiple stories of this happening to others too.
