I was just thinking about my first car that I got after receiving my license. I wish I still had this car and it was generally in pretty good shape. The engine definitely needed work done and, at the time, I wasn't too interested with working on cars even though, as a kid, I liked working on lawn mower engines as I had dreams of building a gas powered go-kart. The picture is NOT my car, but this is what it looked like and/or similar. Mine was a 1973 Ford Thunderbird 460 V8.

Interested on what you all started with as your first car.

1979 Toyota pickup that my parents bought in Sept 1979 after I was born. Single cab 5 speed 22r 2wd with a shell. Gutless as fuck, blind spots galore, the shell was collapsing on itself, and it leaked oil, but I rocked that pile of shit proudly. Hahah. I was 18 and really didn't have a choice unless I wanted to continue to walk everywhere.

Mine was a 1997 Honda Civic HX. I almost bought a ‘94 4runner but didn’t have the cash or the income to daily drive it when gas was like $5/gal. So I picked up a Honda Civic for like $2,000 and got amazing gas mileage for about 4 years until I bought the 4runner. That thing had this eco v-tec that helped with gas mileage. Highway I got almost 40 mpg. I didn’t like the car and beat the hell out of it, but it lasted for a while and never had any issues besides worn CV axles that had to be replaced.

I had a 91 Civic hatchback after the 79 pickup. I used to be able to get all the way to Vegas on a tank of gas. 380 miles on 12 gallons. And I'd be hauling 90-110 the entire way. Fucking car was like a little gokart with the 5 speed manual in it.

1989 F250 single cab/2wd/8cyl/7.3L...back when gas was still affordable. I bought it the summer of my Junior yr (2001), drove it proudly my senior year even though it was just one plywood away from being a gardening truck. hahaha

Looked just like this but without the bullbar

1966 VW Bug. I bought it wrecked because I loved doing body work/repairs. It was T-Boned by the PO. It took me about 3 months to fix it (I was 17 at the time). Needed a new driver door and front fender. I put an 1835 in it with Dual Carbs. It was fast from what I remember but I really didn’t know what fast is back then. I sold it when I got engaged. What a stupid fucking move. Should have kept it and not got married. I’ll dig a pic out and post it up.

Had a ‘88 Mitsubishi Might Max truck. Gutless 2 liter 4 cyl 5 speed. Bought it lowered 3-4”’ via cut front coils and drop blocks and brought it back to stock before driving it. Put a 3” body lift on it from ORW shortly thereafter with some 30x9.50 Cooper A/T’s.

First and worst stuck happened in that jalopy. I lived on Camp Pendleton in high school and surfed Church’s just south of Lowers every day. One day after bombing down a dirt road just on the other side of the I-5, there was a wash next to the dirt road. So what did I do? backed up, hit it at like 35 mph thinking I’d fly through the wash back onto the dirt road and buried that fucking truck to the rear axle. Took me about 4 hours to dig out (reversing back to the dirt road since going forward meant I would be further in the wash). I used the clutch to rock the truck and everything. I learned some valuable sand recovery lessons that day lol.

First car was a 92 Oldsmobile cutlass in burgundy red with matching interior lol. Thing was hideous but dam it was comfortable. Wrecked it twice and replaced the sub frame out of a Buick from a junkyard.
Then 2 years later got a #bestgen 1st gen tundra. 05 access cab. Had that truck almost 3 years. Miss that truck every time I see one

05-06 access cab and double cabs are good looking trucks! If I were to ever buy a full-size p/u, it would probably be one of those.

That's what I have now. It's a great truck. I just wish it was 4wd and the limited model. It does have leather seats though which is super nice.

My stepbrother has a maroon 4 door V8 2WD. It’s a nice truck.

Is the limited different exterior wise like a T4R with flares or trim? Or is it just interior? Can’t say I’ve seen non color matched flares or body cladding aside from a small plastic strip 2”-ish strip of trim on the lower door on the 1st gens.

2000-2002 were available with large unpainted black plastic flares if equipped with the TRD package. Limited trim models had color matched flares regardless of trd package.

Non TRD and Non limited trucks had no fenders flares.

Dunno what when on after 03 or with the double cab trucks

First vehicle was 2001 Tundra access cab. For sure a great truck which is why i still have it. Built it up instead of swapping to a more normal platform. Plan to keep it forever.

my dads got a 02' tundra/6cyl. bought new with a flat bed for work, then had a 1ton (chevy i think) dually axle installed with heavier leafs and a dump cause toyota added dually's on a stock axle and kept snapping the axle shafts. Engine's or trans have never needed any major repairs and he loads the crap out it, that truck is beast.

Yeah I was thinking about the 05+ specifically. I’ve seen the early 1st gen non flare reg cabs and wasn’t sure of the late model Limiteds were distinguishable from non-Limiteds.
