Got most the dirt moved. Will start on the gate tomorrow. Looks good so far. Also got some pea gravel for free and the little yota was maxed out hauling it. And someone left their dinosaur in my yard lol64856FB2-305E-4741-B771-B88F4AF7D3B0.jpegF0C414E6-07FC-43E8-985D-B4AD31EA3BEE.jpeg8B10DEFA-9B52-4697-942B-9FC2E698C274.jpegF5CD0BCC-F717-4024-9926-84B83DD1AC68.jpeg56F03AD5-C0B5-4C87-944E-78DF9817063F.jpegA1359BAD-1EC3-46F1-A0D6-E7440F2BE392.jpeg5572004B-2ADC-4FEC-90F6-8F6A8A956A94.jpeg761B0994-9245-445A-8AFF-BCDE1529540D.jpeg91A31973-7FA4-4A11-AFC0-4B7E21ADB2DC.jpeg584906E1-1EEC-4E0F-A352-484C687F71CC.jpeg

Whats wrong with the footing? Seems pretty normal to me. Less rebar than usual, since it's not for supporting a living space.

But to support a masonry wall and not let it fuck off and fall apart, that's pretty standard

The footings almost 2 feet deep and 4 feet wide. It’s huge and unnecessary but it’s what the city wants so it’s what they got.

Footing size is based on the height of the wall. Looks like about a 7 foot high wall so I don't think it's that much overkill. It's not going anywhere though. That's for sure. lol

It's because a hollow cinder block wall has low resistance to torsional moment force.

So if the ground heaves in a spot or drops in a spot, the footing has to essentially free span that gap without deforming at all, or the wall will fall apart.

If you had concrete filled and rebar'd the wall, your footing would have been allowed to be smaller (likely). But that's more work and money.

If you had used a grade beam and piles, you wouldn't have needed the footing, because the piles would pin it to the ground and not allow movement. However, since with wasn't for a house/living space, the footing was the most efficient way to do it.

Yeah I get the force. Against it and the height. The wall does have concrete and rebar but It’s done now. I don’t have the patience or know how to do block so I paid someone so I didn’t have to dig it which made it even better.

Brickie work can piss off, yep.
So there’s a 12’ section I need to do and I wanna do a 10’ long 3’ tall planter. Should I sub it out? I have brick experience but zero fence block experience. This weekend I’m framing the patio/work space. Can’t wait to have an extra 400sqft of shade once summer comes. So... April lol

You're too far away or I'd do it. I hate it, but making money changes my mind.

My answer for you is paying other professionals to do that which you don't want to or can't isn't a bad thing. It's a smart this.

Haven’t posted anything in a while. Did a day trip to sand hollow yesterday since Easter Jeep safari trip got canceled. Ran the maze and plan b and some of the hard stuff on west rim. Learned I don’t fit through the “squeeze” with the wide axles. Good trip over all.

upgrade/maintenance wise I went to a 1 ton master for stronger brakes and some longer ones because apparently I have gained down travel.3F54BB68-20D8-4D0F-8C91-B11715B6CA83.jpegAAC9D7B1-F6E1-4DC1-B7BD-98B56CEC6B5B.jpegEE8B846E-19C1-4757-A92C-492602BEF5BC.jpegE1226D12-07E3-4B05-A15F-97239D766B80.jpegE1DDF245-6BF3-416E-AF76-132FBD520D0B.jpeg8B831A4B-19AB-403B-9A9E-9F569EFE5A3A.jpeg44856571-6C8B-4F2E-A633-0402F7395412.jpeg101A4F1D-3A71-4893-A8D7-190B3891DBF0.jpeg6D5673EB-8FB1-4D2C-AC7F-5A92239FD27C.jpeg8B3F1C43-FB1F-41F8-9A4E-822BF1EFE2D4.jpegC80EF3DA-0267-4344-B725-B01724BFA9F7.jpeg
